The rollout for Dream Con 2023 has begun! So far, we have the dates and location. As we prepare for more announcements and the ticket drops, I wanted to take time to reflect on my Dream Con 2022 experience. For those that don’t know, Dream Con is an anime and gaming convention created in 2018 by RDCWorld (Real Dreams Change the World), a group of friends from Texas who gained notoriety making skits and short films on YouTube. The convention started as an idea, which turned into reality, and for me to be able to attend was nothing short of inspirational.
In the end, I left feeling like I could do anything I put my mind to and any dreams that I had were attainable. By the way, it was a dream of mine, not only to attend Dream Con, but to work the event. I had GA tickets, but decided to shoot my shot and was approved for press passes...my first sign that dreams come true when it comes to Dream Con. I am a photographer first, but I chose to make the most of this opportunity with photos, video, interviews, and everything that I have dreamed to either do or get back into. Guests of Dream Con 2022
It might sound cliché but Dream Con is really not like any other convention. It feels more like a festival with something for everyone, and non-stop concurrent events, making it impossible to take part in everything. But for 3 days, it was nothing short of an experience! The guest list was made of up young Black creatives, and everyone, guests and attendees, was refreshingly humble. No matter how many followers they had or how big their name was, every guest was friendly and down to earth, and gladly took pictures and spoke to everyone, further adding to the experience. Each day was filled with a variety of events and tournaments such as: the Celebrity All-Star Smash Bros Tournament, $100K Dodgeball Tournament, Cosplay Contest or the crowd interactive game of Family Feud. There were also plenty panels/sessions with celebrity guests, creators, and executives discussing tips and tricks for creating content, how to monetize your content, to tips on how to navigate in the industry.
